Pigmentation Treatments
Pigmentation and vascular treatments using the LuxG Intense Pulsed Light handpiece.
Photorejuvenation is a process which clears vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting haemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions). Using intense pulsed light delivered via the Starlux LuxG™ handpiece, pulsed light is absorbed as heat by the lesion which causes the lesion to disappear. The damaged tissue is eliminated by the body’s natural processes, giving the skin a more even, luminous and younger look. Light energy is delivered over a smooth pulse, keeping the skin temperature lower for maximum comfort.
This treatment reduces the appearance of a number of age-related conditions including brown spots and age spots, freckles, broken capillaries, spider veins and large pores as well as redness, flushing and rosacea. Photo rejuvenation is effective on the face, arms, chest and other large body areas. It can remove damage caused by years of sun exposure and minimise the effects of aging.
Treatment is suitable for all skin types and ages, no downtime is required and there is a very low risk of any side effects. The procedure involves the application of a cooling conducting gel to the skin, after which a hand held device delivers pulses of light through a filter selected according to the patient's skin type.
Most patients feel little or no pain, but for those who are sensitive a topical anaesthetic can be used. Treatments are generally administered as a series of between 3 and 5 treatments at 3 to 4 week intervals. The whole face is treated, not just the affected area, as this gives a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing result, which is seen almost immediately.
Photo facial is a term used to describe this treatment as it applies light therapy to the whole face. Photo facial treatments use the very latest Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology.

The advantages and disadvantages of each method can be discussed at your consultation and will depend on skin type, acceptable downtime and any financial constraints. Peels also offer rejuvenating results.
