Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Muscle relaxing injections are a well-recognised treatment for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum (or Botox as it is more widely known) has now been used by ophthalmologists for over 15 years to subtly soften the signs of aging.
Dynamic wrinkles appear with muscle action and can be particularly noticeable as frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines on lifting the brows, and laughter lines which extend further than you would like. Injections are used to temporarily block this muscle action, reducing the appearance and depth of the lines and creating a smooth appearance without surgery.
Wrinkles which are present when facial muscles are relaxed are unable to be resolved using Botulinum treatment, although the appearance of these may reduce with time. These fine static wrinkles can be improved by using other non-surgical options such as restylane or laser treatment to reduce their onset and progression.
Botox lasts for approximately 4 to 6 months and many patients feel that it a welcome non-surgical approach to the middle aged face. Regular treatments are necessary to maintain the beneficial effects of this treatment.
